This is Charleton Mill Road Covered Bridge in Xenia Township. This Howe truss bridge crosses Massie Creek and was built in 1860. The County Commissioners have deem it tired, unsafe and showing signs of distress and rotting.  The bridge is now closed. Commissioners say, “the bridge has deteriorated to the point it can no longer convey traffic safely. We are currently in the design phase for this bridge to bring it up to specs for all traffic, including school buses and emergency vehicles”. Hopefully, the rehab will be complete by fall of 2012. Last fall, a friend and I did the Greene County covered bridge tour. I remember this one as having ALOT of graffiti and character.
